Description

Have your students draw a Hug-a-Bug after learning about -ug word family words with this engaging directed drawing pack! Students can write about their drawing, create a word family bank, or simply enjoy the drawing as a stand-alone art project.

Students may follow the drawing steps exactly as shown, or be encouraged to modify them to create their own version of the Hug-a-Bug. They can color and decorate their artwork using pencils, crayons, or paint.

This printable pack includes directions for one drawing and provides multiple presentation options to support different learning styles and classroom needs.

Select from one of 4 projects:

  • Classic Directed Drawing
  • Big Draw
  • Draw and Write
  • Read, Draw, Write

Classic Directed Drawing includes the drawing steps with space for students to follow along and draw.

Big Draw provides the drawing steps on one page and a full-page, bordered worksheet for students to create a large artwork.

Draw and Write includes a blank drawing space (using a separate page of steps) along with lines for students to write a sentence or two.

Read, Draw, Write worksheets encourage students to read the words in the word bank, follow the directed steps to draw a picture (students may add additional drawings), and then write a sentence or two about their picture or the topic.

Additional Pages Included

  • Tracing Page to support fine motor skills and early handwriting practice
  • Bold-Line Coloring Page for relaxed creativity, centers, early finishers, or low-prep art time

The directed drawing in this pack is a perfect stimulus for writing and phonics integration. Students may follow the steps exactly, or you can encourage them to add their own individual features, create interesting backgrounds, and include extra scene details.
