This novel unit is designed specifically for Direct Instruction Special Education students, ideally for reading levels third grade and above. The unit is designed for the novel to be read aloud by the instructor and/or students in your class who are stronger readers. An audio book may also be used intermittently. Comprehension questions, quizzes, and activity worksheets are all scaffolded for struggling readers. I have successfully taught this unit with tenth grade Direct Instruction English students.
