Description
⭐ Acronym & Acrostic Project – Multi-Store Model & Working Memory Model (IB / Psych) ⭐
Turn your students into the teachers! In this creative, low-prep project, students design a memorable acronym or acrostic to teach either the Multi-Store Model of Memory (MSM) or the Working Memory Model (WMM).
Perfect for IB Psychology, AP Psychology, or any high school Psychology unit on memory and cognition.
Students move beyond memorizing definitions and actually experience how mnemonic devices support encoding, storage, and retrieval.
🎓 What Students Do
Students will:
- Choose a Model
- Multi-Store Model (sensory, STM, LTM, encoding, storage, retrieval)
- Working Memory Model (central executive, phonological loop, visuospatial sketchpad, episodic buffer)
- Create an Acronym or Acrostic
- Select 4–7 key terms from their model
- Turn them into:
- a catchy acronym (e.g., E.S.R. for Encoding → Storage → Retrieval), or
- a fun acrostic sentence (e.g., “Cats Play Videos Eagerly” for WMM components)
- Design a Visual Aid
- Poster or slide that shows:
- The acronym/acrostic clearly
- Each term defined and linked to the model
- Arrows/icons to show information flow
- A short real-life example (ex: how they study for a test)
- Teach Their Peers (3–5 Minutes)
- Introduce their acronym/acrostic
- Explain how it represents the model
- Show how it helps memory (quick quiz, demonstration, or example)
📂 What’s Included
- Student Project Directions (step-by-step)
- Clear breakdown of both models (MSM & WMM focus areas)
- Built-in examples of acronyms and acrostics to support brainstorming
- Presentation expectations (what to explain, how to “teach” the model)
💡 Why Teachers Love This
✔ Zero-prep, print-and-go or post to LMS
✔ Reinforces key cognitive psychology content through creativity
✔ Encourages peer teaching, ownership, and engagement
✔ Great for:
- Review before a test
- Ending a memory unit
- IB Psychology exam prep (solidifying core models)
🧠 Perfect For…
- IB Psychology SL/HL – Cognitive Approach: Models of Memory
- AP Psychology – Cognition / Memory
- High school Intro to Psychology
- Study skills or learning strategies lessons
