Description

Our Identify Text Structures lesson plan teaches students all about various text structures, including how they are used, and how to identify them. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to look at a list of signal words and phrases (such as “as a result” and “specifically”), determine which text structure they signal, and then write a sentence using the signal word or phrase correctly. Students are also asked to read a passage and identify and text structures they find, demonstrating their ability to accurately recognize text structures in written work.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and describe the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text or part of a text.
