Description

This game reviews 4th grade Measurement based on the Virginia SOL standards. This game covers Metric and U.S. Customary for Liquid Volume (Capacity), Mass/Weight, and Length. To play, break students into 4 or 5 teams. Each team will need a fly swatter. Each team will send up a representative to the board with their fly swatter. Teacher will read the question. After teacher fully finishes reading the question, students swat the correct conversion on the board. The first team to swat the correct conversion gets a point. (It helps if students only get one swat and must leave their fly swatter touching the board to easily determine who hit it first). Representatives then return to their team and each team solves using the correct conversion. Teams receive a point only if they solve correctly. Teams can earn 0,1, or 2 points each round depending on if they swat the conversion and solve correctly. Teams may solve on a white board and use a calculator. I used Cooperative Learning for this activity and students rotated roles. Each round every team had a writer, swatter, calculator solver, and additional helpers. My students loved this game!
