Description

Identifying minerals is a fun activity, but it can be messy and time consuming for teachers. Observations can be difficult for students, and finding minerals that match the tables of information can be frustrating for teachers. These identifying minerals activities are a great way for students to practice these skills, and they require almost no prep for teachers!

With clear pictures and instructions, these activities will become a key part of any unit on minerals. Help students understand hardness and streak as they make observations about color and luster! A simplified Characteristics of Minerals table will help make identifying these minerals clear, but this table can be edited to make it useful in every classroom with your mineral sets!

In this product, you will receive:

2 Sets of Mineral Images (8 Minerals in All)

2 Student Sheets

Fully Editable Characteristics of Minerals Table

Teacher Notes for Each Activity

Answer Keys Included!

These innovative resources will engage your students and help develop mastery of this engaging concept!

This was used before we used real minerals. Students sat in groups and discussed each step and at the end identified the mineral. Great beginning resource!

This was a great resource to use to help students practice identifying minerals. The students enjoyed seeing the color pictures of minerals and using the mineral chart to figure out the name of the mineral. It was super easy to turn these into Google slides to assign digitally.

The color of the minerals and the streak color needed a bit of explaining, but once they got it they really enjoyed it.
