Identifying text features in nonfiction is important for students learning to comprehend nonfiction texts. This engaging informational text features learning activity booklet will help your students practice this valuable skill!

This versatile, original project is one that students are sure to enjoy as they learn more about text features. All text was written and created by me following some research on mustaches and the history of mustaches. :)

The half-page size booklet includes 19 common text features broken down by into three categories (navigators, visuals, and types of text) with kid-friendly definitions and unique, mustache-themed examples of all the text features.

This product includes the following:

  • Anchor Chart: Includes all 19 text features in the three categories
  • Booklet Option 1 / Answer Key: This has all definition + examples.
    (Print out the answer key for students to use during instruction. You could project the answer key pages to use during whole class instruction as you introduce text features.)
  • Booklet Option 2: This has the examples missing, and students need to identify the cut-out examples that match up with the definitions given.
  • Booklet Option 3: This has the definitions missing, and students need to identify the cut-out definitions that match up with the examples given.
  • Checklist Rubric: Simple, easy-to-use checklist rubric if you choose to use this booklet as an text features assessment after instruction

Have students complete this as an independent project or as a small group project after instruction to assess whether students are able to identify the different informational text features.
