Description

I use this project to decorate students' free-write journals, but can be used for other purposes! This download includes:

  • Project packet with rubric and brainstorming guide
  • Slides with videos to accompany the activity

Why are we doing this project?

Liz Kleinrock defines identity as “made up of the qualities, characteristics, and beliefs that make you who you are.” Since self-love is the #1 goal we can set for ourselves, we will learn to celebrate all the parts of ourselves.

What is the project?

Imagine yourself as a book. Like Jason Reynolds said, “You are a story amongst yourself. Inside of you are all kinds of things.” Your task is to create a book jacket (the part of you that everyone sees) AND a book casing (the parts of you that are underneath the book jacket - the parts we can’t see). Your final piece will represent what matters to you.
