Description
Are you noticing severe learning gaps in your math classroom? Do you notice some students are ready for the higher-level thinking that Illustrative Math requires, and others who are struggling to add up to ten?
These practice sheets are my solution for addressing those gaps. A one-hour math block simply isn't enough to tackle all the needs of your students, but this resource can help.
Why I Created It:
As mentioned above, I wanted to find a way to close the learning gaps in my room. Some students need extra practice with mental math strategies, while others are ready to tackle word problems with double or triple digit addends. I also wanted common language that IM uses, so students can familiarize themselves with math vocabulary. Also, I noticed that IM touches on math concepts that some students aren't prepared for, so I did my best to hold to the curriculum while explicitly teaching some simple math strategies. Lastly, I wanted my students better prepared for the language and types of questions on the End of Unit Assessments.
How You Can Use It:
- as daily morning work that students complete throughout the week
- as an activity when students finish work
- as a study guide
- as weekly homework
- as a math center
