Description
Here's an easy, manageable way to establish and implement a PBIS and CHAMPS strategy in your classroom. At the beginning of each quarter students are given hallway passes allowing them to leave my classroom for bathroom use, going to their locker for forgotten materials, and going to their locker for homework. In order to show increasing responsibility and maturity throughout the year, the number of passes per quarter decreases by one, except for bathroom allowances. This system was established to help maximize learning time and reduce distractions during class. The student will fill out the pass they need. Hand the pass to me without disturbing the flow of the class learning in progress. Now I have a document of which kid has left the room, the time, and the date. I file the pass according to class period, and can refer back to that collection if the student claims they've lost their passes or there's a hallway problem. Each quarter I print the passes in a new color and take time at the beginning of the quarter to have each student fill out their first and last names in pen on each name line. This document can also be editted to your classroom needs.
After 15 years of teaching, this is one of those things that I have finally crafted that makes life easier on me so to speak. I am also able to use this as one of my professional goals that supports our building intiatives of using PBIS/CHAMPS strategies.
