Description

This resource, for Calculus (used in AP Calculus AB), covers an introduction to implicit differentiation finding the first derivative of a implicitly defined function. This BUNDLE includes guided notes, teacher information including potential student difficulties, practice worksheet, and all accompanying solution keys with detailed steps. 17 problems are included in this bundle - 9 on the notes and 8 on the practice handout. The color coded solution key is included in this 9 page PDF resource.

The Intro Notes include:

  • 3 review questions: 1 basic power rule derivative with x, one function in which you can use product rule or distribute out first, and of two simple polynomial functions, and one function in which you solve for y first
  • Detailed implicit differentiation steps
  • 6 examples: first example matches review question #1 but instead of using x, the question uses y so students can see the similarities between traditional differentiation and implicit differentiation; examples 3, 5, and 6 require taking out dy/dx as a GCF
  • d/dx and dy/dx notation

*The notes do NOT include any transcendental functions such as sine or ln. The notes also don't include any implicit differentiation examples that require product rule.*

The practice worksheet includes:

  • Product rule
  • Chain rule
  • Derivatives of sine and cosine (including cosine of y)
  • dy/dx notation
  • Radical functions
  • Simplified derivatives (for example: reducing fractions)

*The practice does NOT include derivatives involving quotient rule, trig functions other than sine and cosine, natural log or e, second derivatives, or implicit differentiation at a point.*

What You Get:

  • 2 Pages of Student Guided Notes: 3 "review" questions and 6 implicit differentiation examples
  • Teacher Info: Potential student difficulties included
  • 2 Pages of Student Handouts: 8 questions
  • Solution Key: Fully worked solutions for all problems included
