Experts have proven that student choice is crucial in developing a student's love for reading. I try to incorporate this idea into my classroom through mini-lessons and novel study. Every year, I have students choose a novel that interests them, and we use it to apply all the literary devices and analysis we have studied throughout the year. This packet includes twenty pages of worksheets to help guide students through their study of a work of fiction. Included are activities for pre-reading, reading, and post reading. There are journal templates, plot and character evaluation, theme analysis, an essay question, guidelines for summarizing, author information, vocabulary lists, vocabulary project, and style analysis. I have even used this (portions of it) as a final test over novels as well.
