Description

This set of 32 short passage cards are designed to help your students practice identifying different types of informational text structures. The five text structures that are used include: sequence, problem and solution, compare and contrast, description, and cause and effect. Each card (4 per page) features a short informational paragraph which includes signal words and phrases and a choice of text structures to choose from.

Also included, you will find a handout which contains key signal words/phrases for student reference. As well as, a student recording sheet and answer key.

  • Use as a whole class activity
  • Use in small groups
  • Play Scoot
  • Use for Exit slips
  • Use as a reading center activity
  • Use as test prep
  • Use for intervention
  • Use for tutoring

You can use these cards to teach each text structure before having students tackle a really large passage, or use them as exit slips after having taught a key text structure. These are great to use as test prep before a reading assessment, etc.

Print in color for best results, but will also look fine printed in grayscale. Laminate and use year after year.
