Description

Understanding and identifying text structures is essential to decoding complex informational texts. This unit breaks the concept down into easy and effective lessons with plenty of supporting activities! This is a two week unit that contains scripted lessons with corresponding anchor chart examples, worksheets, and activity examples. Twelve task cards are useful for small group, partner, or one-on-one practice. Additionally there are 5 reading passages with text-based questions and one reading assessment with multiple choice and short answer questions.

I used this unit in my classroom to introduce my fourth graders to text structures and reinforce text-based answers and close reading strategies. Students who struggled with concepts like cause and effect enjoyed the hands-on activities and the reading passages were perfect during test prep time. This unit is a perfect introduction or review of informational text structures!
