Description

If you are teaching a unit on insect classification, then this is the product for you! This would nicely compliment an already standing unit in your curriculum, or could function as a stand alone unit. It includes a detailed Power Point, staring with the classification system and leading into basic characteristics of 8 different insect orders (orthoptera, odonata, coleoptera, homoptera, hymenoptera, lepidoptera, hemiptera, and diptera). Students will take notes using the different Interactive Notebook templates included. Two different quizzes are included with answer keys.

Next, you will find an insect collection project directions and rubric. This is a great opportunity for your students to practice what they are learning about classification. You may choose to have your students find the actual insects or find pictures to represent each order. There are also what I call "Check In Sheets" where you can check in with students throughout the project time line to check to see how many insects they have caught and labeled. This helped my students keep on track with their due date, and saved me the headache of wondering if my students were going to have their projects in on time!

The Insect Collection Project is sold separately in my store as well.

Also, this entire Insect Classification Unit is bundled with my Arthropods Unit, which includes not only all of this insect information, but Spider Stations (covering different kinds of spiders in a Close Reading format) and a Crustacean Power Point and Tab Booklet for notes, too! Don't miss out on the bundle and the money you can save!

This is a great beginning to my 5th grade insect unit. I have used the classification pieces and next week will use the complete and incomplete metamorphosis pieces. It fits very well with Memoria Press's insects resources.
