Description

This sorting activity focuses on major characteristics of Class Insecta, as well as 7 major insect orders: {Coleoptera, Orthoptera, Diptera; Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, Odonata, and Lepidoptera.}

It includes 8 sorting category pages, as well as 5 pages of cards to cut and sort (60 cards included!). A teacher key has also been provided.

This would be a GREAT tool to use as you prepare your students for insect collection products!

This resource can be used in a variety of ways! You can print a copy for each student, or print a copy for a small group. My favorite way to use sorting activities in my classroom has been to tape the category pages all around the room, and give each student a card (or two or five depending on your numbers!) along with a piece of tape. As a class, students have a time limit to correctly sort the cards. Students enjoy racing the clock, as well as getting out of their seats! I usually walk around to check the cards, let students know how many are incorrect, and give them a chance to try again! It’s a lot of fun. :)

Keep an eye out for more insect products coming soon!

This is a great activity for center/stations activities. I teach high school zoology and terms and concepts are perfect.
