Excellent resource! Great supplement to my lesson.
I was under the impression that it was front end addition. In my mind that is addition that goes horizontally, such as 24+43, you would add 20+40 and then 4+3
60+7.

That product is exactly what you described. Where did this product go wrong? The example is just as you stated. This is exactly how EDM teaches front end addition.
