Description

Five easy prep personal finance insurance lessons and activities teach students about insurance basics! Students will learn about ten common types of insurance, then focus specifically on health insurance and auto insurance.

These lessons and activities aim to make learning about insurance fun and engaging for your students! Resources include opportunities for independent student exploration, real-world task card scenarios, a scavenger hunt that will get them up and moving, and more!

What's included:

  • Insurance Exploration Independent Research Activity: Students will independently research two types of insurance by investigating who each type protects, what types of things insurance covers, as well as what types of things it excludes.
  • Intro to Insurance: Students will learn the basics of insurance, insurance vocabulary, and ten common types of insurance. Types include auto insurance, health insurance, homeowners insurance, and more! Includes Google Slides, Guided Notes, and a task card activity.
  • Understanding Health Insurance: Students learn about the differences between high deductible and standard health insurance plans. They'll compare health insurance plans and estimate health insurance costs to choose between plans.
  • Understanding Your Auto Insurance Policy: Students will learn about the different types of coverages on an auto insurance policy, how to read and interpret a declarations page, how insurance companies determine rates, and more. Includes Google Slides, Guided Notes, and a scavenger hunt practice activity.
  • Choosing an Auto Insurance Company: Students will be asked to fill out a table comparing four insurance companies, including how to get a quote, types of insurance offered, discounts, and other services offered. The activity wraps up with a few questions asking students to give an opinion on which companies might meet their future needs.
  • BONUS FILE: Insurance Study Guide - This study guide can be used as a unit review before the quiz.
  • BONUS FILE: Insurance Quiz - This quiz can be used after completing each of the five activities to assess students' knowledge. A paper version and a Google Forms version are both included. Answer key and Bundle Pacing Guide are also included in the Bonus File.
