Description

This is a SELF-CHECKING, DIGITAL ACTIVITY in GOOGLE SHEETS with INSTANT FEEDBACK that offers students a fantastic opportunity to practice INTEGER COMPUTATION (all operations). It can be used with students who are just learning integers (typically 6th or 7th grade), or more advanced students (Pre-Algebra and above) who need a quick refresher. Designed as a Distance Learning Activity, it would also function well in a classroom or hybrid setting.

♦ WHAT MAKES IT FUN?

As students enter each answer, they will get INSTANT FEEDBACK in the form of a fun green or red message right beside their answer (green for correct and red for incorrect). Examples: Wow! Cool Beans! or Sad Face! Stinky Feet! Students have unlimited chances to try again and again to get their red message to change to green when they succeed in getting the correct answer – HOW MOTIVATIONAL IS THAT?!

Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.
Understand š˜± + š˜² as the number located a distance |š˜²| from š˜±, in the positive or negative direction depending on whether š˜² is positive or negative. Show that a number and its opposite have a sum of 0 (are additive inverses). Interpret sums of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
Understand subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse, š˜± – š˜² = š˜± + (ā€“š˜²). Show that the distance between two rational numbers on the number line is the absolute value of their difference, and apply this principle in real-world contexts.
