Integer Operations Two Color Counters Activity
Share

Description

Integer Operations: Interactive Manipulative Designed Worksheet on solving integer operation expressions by working with positive and negative numbers.

This product includes a ready-to-print double-sided worksheet on integer operations. This activity can be turned into a hands-on activity using two-color counters, but can be done without them by drawing diagrams. This product provides opportunities for direct instruction, whole class examples, and independent practice.

Activity designed to include:

- Direct Instruction w/ Optional Hands-on Component: On the top-half of the front side of the worksheet, there is space for discussion about how to use diagrams (or two-color counters) to demonstrate solving expressions involving positive and negative numbers. This is a good opportunity to also review the terms that a “negative sign” can also be called.

- Examples: On the bottom half-of the front side of the worksheet, there is space for examples to complete as a whole class.

- Practice Problems: On the back of the worksheet, there are 10 integer expression problems. Students should demonstrate with their two-color counters (or draw a model) to represent the expression and then solve.

This was an amazing printout that I laminated and used as a reteach for students. It was simple and to the point where students were able to use manipulatives, then apply it to their work.
