Share

Description

This is an activity that really helps students discover held misunderstandings about integer arithmetic and the order of operations together, but in a way that does not just leave them with a wrong answer. The activity itself promotes them chasing down what they've done incorrectly and fixing it.

The activity involves a character from a scary movie, who famous says, Let's play a game. And that's what this activity feels like. Essentially the students are given a string of four, fours, which equal some integer number.

Students love this activity and they learned a lot about their own thinking with respect to PEMDAS! We turned it into a game. Great idea!
