Description

This resource is an excellent way to help students practice subtracting integers. Each time students complete a pyramid they practice 10 integer subtraction problems. Students start with the 5 integers on the bottom row of the pyramid. Students fill in each white triangle by finding the difference of the two integers below. Students will start at the bottom and work their way up. The difference of the two integers in the second-to-top row should match the integer at the top of the pyramid. This is a great self-checking activity. The pyramid task cards can be hung as stations around the room or used at table groups. They can also be displayed individually to use as races for the class. This resource can be printed on any color paper/cardstock.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.
Describe situations in which opposite quantities combine to make 0. For example, a hydrogen atom has 0 charge because its two constituents are oppositely charged.
Understand 𝘱 + 𝘲 as the number located a distance |𝘲| from 𝘱, in the positive or negative direction depending on whether 𝘲 is positive or negative. Show that a number and its opposite have a sum of 0 (are additive inverses). Interpret sums of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
