Description

“If you can see it, you can be it.” This quote is relevant to many things, but may have deeper meaning in the current educational climate, where teachers and administrators are struggling to encourage and facilitate interest in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). In order for young children to develop an early predisposition toward these fields, they need to be able to imagine themselves in those roles. This goes beyond simply knowing what different science fields are, but requires activities and opportunities to become familiar with the actual work that scientists do. The activities included in this unit are examples of a creative, personalized, and enjoyable way to engage with the practice of science and the excitement of scientific discovery.
