Can your students solve the math mystery and earn their detective badges?!

Bring out your students inner detective skills with this INTERACTIVE Google Slides™ math mystery for addition and subtraction (WITHOUT regrouping)! Students will click through the slides to find the clues by solving addition and subtraction problems and uncovering letters along the way. Once they have successfully solved each of the math problems, they will have all of the letters needed to crack the code and solve the case of who stole their teacher's favourite book (HINT: A furry friend might have been a little hungry)!

This activity can be done as a whole class OR through distance learning. Simply share the link with students and 'Make each student a copy' of the workbook - your little detectives will be engaged and excited about math while practicing 2-digit addition and subtraction (WITHOUT regrouping)! This activity was intended for Grade 2 use; however, it can be used as a review for Grade 3 learners AND enrichment for Grade 1 learners.

  • Printable badges for when students solve the mystery
  • Instructions on how to share a 'PRESENTER VIEW' link to students

Do you have any more of these? I would love one with basic multiplication and division facts up to 7x7.

Hi Natalie! Thank you for your review! Unfortunately, I don’t currently have anymore of these; however, I do plan on making more similar to it! Thank you so much for the suggestion of basic multiplication and division facts! I’ll see what I can do it in the next week. ? Samantha (The Idea Backpack)

Love this resource. Students were so engaged the entire time and were excited to uncover each letter. It did take a little while to do (as I was doing it with multiple groups with online learning), so I split it up over two online sessions with the kids. It probably would have been easier to send them the link and have them do it independently at home but it was so fun to watch how excited they were. Looking forward to using it in the classroom next year so that I am able to assess student work as well. Thank you!
