Description

This is a fun way to have students practice and review math concepts while laughing at silly winter- themed jokes. There are seven math questions that cover concepts like: addition, subtraction, single x multi-digit number multiplication, two digit by multi-digit number multiplication, rounding, division concepts, and a story problem. Each math question is written by a joke. Post the math problems/ joke around the room and the answers (folded, answer to math question facing up so the answer to the joke is temporarily hidden) in a different part of the room. Students first select a math problem and solve for the answer. Once they have solved for the answer they should read the joke on that card and walk around to look for that answer to the math problem on one of the folded answer pages around the room. (If students can't find the answer to the math problem in the room, encourage them to go back and try the problem again or help them review their work for a mistake/ misunderstanding.) When they find the answer to the math problem they solved they can turn it over to see what is the answer to the joke. After turning the card (page folded like a card) back over so the answer to the math problem is back to facing up, students can move on to solve another math problem/ joke. This can be a fun way to get students moving and practicing their math skills. Also, this activity works well for partners or small group to help each other solve the problem, and because who doesn't enjoy laughing at jokes with friends?!
