Description
Converting minutes to hours, hours to days, and weeks to months, is the skill of unit conversions of time. This 8-day lesson unit addresses the functional math skill of converting a variety of units of time within the vocational, workplace, and daily living environments.
Students will increase their familiarity and understanding of common units of time through converting to other units of time. Whether students are receiving instruction from a doctor, reading the packaging on a box of food, or taking direction from their manager, students will frequently encounter time-related phrases. These lesson plans and activities are designed to help them understand and apply these concepts confidently.
Through practical application, students will:
- Convert units of time: 6 weeks to a month and a half
- Identify equivalent periods of time: 90 seconds is a minute and a half
- Interpet common phrases of time: 24-48 hours to 1-2 days
- Estimate close time increments: Accepting when people say 10:00 when the time is 10:04
- Apply telling time skills: Determining if an event is in the past or the future
By the end of this unit, students will learn about interpreting and converting common units of time through time worksheets, practice, activities, and assessment to increase their confidence in the skill of telling time.
Created with teens and young adults in mind, students will see themselves through the questions and examples in these lesson plans.
