Description

If you teach essay writing in your middle school ELA class, you will need to teach writing an intro paragraph. And guess what? I'll do it for you! Use this lesson and guided notes, go to the free YouTube lesson, sit back, and take a breather! Perfect for the beginning of essay writing, homeschooling, when you need sub plans, or when kids are absent.

I'll also provide a regular link to the video in case you can't access YouTube in your class.

You’ll get a PDF with all the components you need for this product.  TPT does NOT need access to your drive for this version of the product. However, you will need access to a Google Drive (free) to use this product.

The concept is simple:

  1. Show the video.  You get to sit back and take a breather!  You could also teach the lesson yourself by going through the slideshow, but why bother?  I’ll do it for you!
  2. Print the guided notes and have kids fill them out as watching.  Have kids keep them in their writing notebooks.
  3. Post the lesson on your digital learning platform for kids to reference in the future.
  4. Give any follow-up activity of your choice.  I recommend having kids put their ideas into action in their writing pieces.  There is a piece called “Putting it into Action” that kids can follow.  You could also use a writing center.  Click here for essay writing centers.
  5. As an alternative to choosing a follow-up activity, you could also just have kids watch the video without writing at first then fill in the notes when you are done.

Here's what you'll get:

⭐️The complete lesson - to add to your digital learning platform

⭐️Guided notes - to keep kids focused

⭐️Answer key - for the guided notes

⭐️The YouTube lesson - but that's free anyway

⭐️A copy of the video - in case you can't access YouTube in your classroom

This is perfect for:

  • The beginning of your essay writing unit
  • Taking a break from teaching lessons
  • When you have a sub
  • When kids are absent
  • Homeschooling
