Description
Middle school or high school first week activity to review and apply the scientific method. This one day laboratory uses a fortune telling fish to observe a phenomenon, develop and test a hypothesis, record data, and come to a conclusion. The product is an editable word document, please click on the preview to view the full version of the product as a copyright pdf.
For high school this is a one day activity. For middle school, set aside two days. Students will observe the movement of a fortune fish and as a guided group, develop hypothesis for why the fish moves. Students will work in small groups to create a mini experiment to test their hypothesis and after gaining teacher approval, move to a lab station and carry out their experiment. Students will gather data and state their conclusion by confirming or rejecting their hypothesis. Students will be in awe of the magic and then in awe of their own ability to prove the science behind it.
