This 4 page introduction paragraph activity requires students to look at a variety of introduction paragraphs and accurately identify the following:

• Topic Sentence / Hook
• Commentary / Background
• Thesis Statement

Each sample paragraph is followed by four written-response short answer questions which require students to revise/rework each paragraph, critique the content of the introduction, and and make a prediction as to what the rest of the essay/article is about.

There is a separate page of the document for each paragraph and its questions, so you can divide this into separate mini-lessons, complete this in a "jigsaw" method with a group of students and have them share out, or combine together as a large packet or digital activity!
