Do you teach Middle School art? If so, this resource is for you! This folder contains introductory learning materials to teach your students the basics about the Elements of Art. Students are introduced to the seven elements: line, shape, color, texture, shape, space, form, and value through an interactive presentation. Students will then create a poster that demonstrates each element of art through the use of examples. This poster project is a great introduction for students to begin to talk, identify, and utilize the Elements of Art in their artwork. It is also a great introductory project to art class as it helps all students build their confidence and creativity.

Central Focus:

  • Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to demonstrate and identify the seven elements of art: line, color, space, shape, texture, value, and form.

Learning Targets:

  • I can identify the elements of art.
  • I can demonstrate examples of each element of art.
  • I can create an artwork that demonstrates the elements of art.

NYS Visual Arts Learning Standards:

  • Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
  • Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
  • Anchor Standard 3: Refine and complete artistic work.
  • Anchor Standard 9: Apply criteria to evaluate artistic work.
