Description

This is a 7 page power point presentation that I have used to introduce 5th - 8th graders to mallet instruments. The last three slides teach students a song using letter names instead of music notation. I designed it this way so that older students who have never learned to read music can learn a song quickly.

Slide 1: Cover.

Slide 2: Definitions of percussion, mallet, mallet instrument, and melodic

Slide 3: Types of mallet instruments. (Xylophone, metallophone, glockenspiel)

Slide 4: History of mallet instruments and genres of music that involve mallet instruments.

Slide 5: What is an ostinato? This slide involves ostinatos that students can play.

Slide 6: Adding a harmony. This slide includes ostinatos with harmonies.

Slide 7: Playing Frere Jacques/Are You Sleeping with a melody and ostinato.
