From my experience, students need reteaching, or just teaching, of how to model systems or phenomena properly.
This worksheet asks students to model four scenarios and answer some questions about each. Students are provided with a checklist so that they know what is necessary to be successful on the modeling activity. Additionally, a teacher grading rubric is included that allows you to better give feedback and a grade for each model. The grading system uses a 4 point scale, aligned well with the standards-based grading practices.
