Included is a PowerPoint Presentation that allows students to explore what a variable is using a simple menu. Students are prompted to push their thinking of why we use letters in math and they are able to see patterns of using a variable.

There is no worksheet to go with this slideshow, but there is stop and jots (writing) built into it to have the students writing and sharing their responses. The answers and probing questions are included in the notes.

This is a great way to engage students on the importance of variables in math.
