Inverse Functions Coloring Activity
Students will determine the equation of an inverse function given the equation of an original function. This no prep activity contains a page of practice problems (18 problems total) that when properly solved reveal a color code used to correctly color an included color-by-letter sheet, as well as a full answer key. Just make your copies and it's ready to go! This is a great way to combine in class practice with a stress management activity, a way to keep students busy as they finish at different speeds, or just a great way to quickly check student answers. Also works well individually or in pairs!
For each problem, students are given the equation of an original function and asked to match it to the equation of it's inverse function. All potential inverse functions are given in an answer bank. Some of the original functions and inverses functions are very similar with similar numbers to really test whether students are getting the correctly order of operations in addition to the correct inverse operations themselves! In order to solve these algebraically, students would need an understanding of the inverse operations: addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, and squaring/taking a square root. Students do not need to work with powers or indices higher than 2.
