Description

Don't waste time having your kids memorize math facts anymore! Instead, have them play this 2-game (one for adding subtracting and one for multiplying/dividing) bundle that will help them master math facts, the commutative property, AND inverse operations while playing cards!

Summary of Activity:

  • Lay out the Operator Cards and Equal Sign
  • Slowly deal number cards out until someone can make an Equation
  • Once they make an Equation, they re-arrange the cards to make another Equation (commutative property).
  • Next, the FLIP the Operator Card and make two new equations (inverse operations). If they can do it, they keep the number cards and replace the Operator and Equal Sign.
  • Once all number cards are used (or cannot be used anymore), the player with the most number cards wins.

This game is super easy for small groups to facilitate by themselves, so it's perfect for Centers!

Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one adds tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.
Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used.
