Description

*Now includes worksheets to help students understand WHY there are invisible ones in coefficients, exponents, and denominators!

Take the time to remind your students of the invisible math they use every day by using these posters and worksheets to teach your students these important but invisible math facts! Use this resource to improve student understanding, raise test scores, scaffold and differentiate instruction.

These are affordable, adorable, and mathematically accurate posters that are perfect for middle and high school math classrooms! While others are promoting products with mathematically inaccurate or misleading phrases, this set gives your students mathematically accurate information through adorable posters and worksheets!

These invisible math posters and worksheets help remind students about ten important math rules that often seem invisible:

  • Integers can be written with a decimal.
  • We can write integers as fractions with a denominator of 1.
  • Numbers without a sign are positive.
  • When there is no coefficient, the coefficient is 1.
  • Coefficients are multiplied by their associated variable.
  • If a number or variable doesn't have a written exponent, the exponent is 1.
  • Any nonzero number to the zero power is 1.
  • Every radical symbol is a square root unless there is another index.
  • We can write a variable in the denominator as having a negative exponent.
  • The negative sign in front of parentheses means “-1 times this whole quantity.”

Also included:

  • Letters for making a title for a bulletin board with the posters. Both "INVISIBLE MATH" and "HIDDEN FIGURES" are included as titles. For each of the titles, there are two sets with different borders and one set with no borders. (See preview!)
  • Worksheets for students to color in, write examples on, or summarize the bulletin board ideas. These can be included in an interactive notebook, used as coloring pages and put up as decoration in the room, or as simply a worksheet for students to annotate with examples, thoughts, notes, etc.
  • NEW: "Why invisible ones?!" Worksheet that helps students discover for themselves why there are invisible ones in coefficients, exponents, and denominators!

These resources will help:

  • Prepare students for EOC exams, ACT testing, etc. by giving them reminders of pre-algebra content often needed for standardized testing.
  • Remind all students of the basics they often forget.
  • Scaffold learning for your students.
  • Differentiate your instruction by providing help for students who struggle with memory issues, attention issues, learning disabilities, or miss a lot of school.
