This PowerPoint package is a fun Ionic Nomenclature review and learning tool for Physical Science or Chemistry. It contains 18 Ionic Formulas and 18 Ionic Names of varying difficulty including use of polyatomic ions and transition metals that require Roman Numerals. The PowerPoint is timed so that 3 problems "enter" the screen one at a time and remain visible for 20-30 seconds each before dissolving. I like to use this on Day 2 of Ionic bonding so I can quickly assess where each student stands on this relatively tough topic. Students will need a periodic table and a polyatomic ions chart (included).

Option 1 (Students check their own work)

Working in small groups, students write the 3 names or formulas on the included recording sheet (included) as the class views each timed PowerPoint slide. After about 90 seconds, you reveal and discuss the correct answers. All students need their own periodic table and access to a polyatomic ions chart.

Option 2 (Group Competition)

Use Dry Erase Boards for each group. Viewing PowerPoint as a class, students will raise their 3 answers up when you say "Up!" Scan the room giving points for correct answers. For this option, I do not allow them to write the problem forcing them to stay focused and work collaboratively.
