This set includes 4 one-page Readings with 4 - 6 multiple choice comprehension questions. The texts in this set summarize the important events of James Monroe's presidency including: First Seminole Wars, Andrew Jackson's Florida Invasions, Monroe Doctrine and Missouri Compromise.

I use these in classes to reinforce the Common Core Reading Informational Text within my 7th/8th grade US History Classes. The content reinforces the social studies content while providing the students with practice for state assessments.

I print the worksheets for each students, have each student read the text in a variety of structures (paired reading, etc.) and then using different colored highlighters/markers identify in the text where the support for the answer choice is found.

It has been my experience that my struggling readers get better at 'digging into the text' with this practice. Additionally, the text reinforces the important information covering the American History content.
