Description

✏️ For use with the YA version or the adult version of Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy

These slides include over 30 questions/prompts to get students thinking about issues presented in the text. There is at least one question/prompt for each of the 16 chapters, as well as the epilogue, and several for before students even begin reading the text.

These can be used as a warm-up, or to break up the readings. They can also be printed for independent work as students read the text. Many can also be used for quick writes or quizzes. Each question posed is open-ended and designed to encourage students to think critically about the issues in the text.

I've personally used these during Socratic Seminars with great success!

This was a great resource to add to my Just Mercy unit. Lots of great entry tasks to add discussion and debate to my contemporary world problems course.

I used this as the class was reading Just Mercy. The students were able to get ready for the lesson as we went through this activity.

I love using this resource. I'm teaching Just Mercy for the first time this year, and I always like to have my students complete a bell ringer for us to discuss before we get into the rest of the class period. These bell ringers have been super helpful in getting my students' brains "going" before we begin!

Just Mercy is emotionally exhausting. It is a vital read, particularly for my students, who are likely to be racially profiled. Reading the book was enough to leave me so broken that I couldn't focus. But this resource saved me. Activities, Do Nows, Discussion starters...all were ready to go. Thank you so much! It is important to share this story with students as just one example of injustice!
