Kid Mock Government: Inquiry Based Middle School History/ELA Project
Share

Description

Engage students in research, writing, and oral presentation skills with this inquiry based project! This is a must do leadership project for your social studies or civics classroom.

This project teaches speaking and listening skills, oral debate, critical thinking, research and writing while demonstrating exactly how the branches of government interact with each other.

Students take on the role of Congressmen, Senators, Committee Chairs, the Speaker of the House, Vice President, and the President. In their roles, students will write bills and speeches, practice their debating skills, discover how campaigning works, and find out exactly how a bill becomes a law while they are actively participating in this fun and interactive simulation.

Students are tasked with identifying classroom rules they want to change and are empowered to write a bill to fix the issues they see. They'll be having so much fun, they won't even realize they're learning exactly how the federal government operates.

If you are looking for a project that students will remember for years down the road, administration will love, and parents will get excited about, you’re in the right place. This project is seriously SO MUCH FUN and includes absolutely everything you need, just print and follow the easy to understand directions that are pre-paced for you.

As an added bonus, I'll give you detailed instructions on how I got a sitting member of Congress and a real television station to stop by my room to make the project even more magical.

Included in this product:

  • Eighteen pages of detailed, step by step instructions.
  • Included pictures & instructions on how to get supplies FOR FREE.
  • Legislative/Executive Vocabulary
  • Templates and printouts (including a realistic bill template!)
  • Easy to follow scripts
  • Informational writing about the various roles
  • Sample speech ideas
  • (Coming soon) Differentiated grading rubrics

Not only will you be amazed at what your students discover, you will be the talk of the school and town! In my first year doing this, the local TV station came out and did a story over the project.. so much fun!
