Help students build a strong foundation in early addition by identifying the parts and whole—without using symbols or equations! In this fall-themed resource, students look at colorful ten-frame pictures and complete the sentence:

This resource includes 40 interactive slides and 16 Write the Room task cards, perfect for developing number sense and part-whole relationships using visual models only. It’s ideal for introducing addition in Kindergarten or as a conceptual review for early First Grade.

- 40 Picture-Based Interactive Slides
Each slide features a ten frame filled with fall-themed objects (leaves, acorns, apples). Students determine the two parts and the total, then complete the sentence “__ and __ make __.”
Great for whole group modeling, number talks, or interactive whiteboards. - 16 Fall-Themed Write the Room Task Cards
Students walk around the room to find and solve picture-based part-whole problems. Each card uses the same visual format as the slides, helping build confidence and consistency.
How to Use:
During Whole or Small Group Instruction:
- Display a Slide – Project a visual slide with a ten frame.
- Model the Problem – Guide students to count and identify the two parts.
- Complete the Sentence – Fill in the blanks: “___ and ___ make ___.”
- Use Learning Mats (Optional) – Students can model with counters, then record on laminated mats or with dry-erase markers.
Write the Room Activity:
- Post the Cards – Hang cards around the classroom.
- Students Walk and Solve – With clipboards or recording sheets, students move around, count the parts, and complete the “___ and ___ make ___” sentence.
- Optional Center Use – Use cards in small groups or centers with dry erase markers.
