Our Kindergarteners were having trouble adding an amount to what was already given. (If you have 5 rabbits and you got two more, how many do you have now?) Some of them kept going back to "1" and counting up to 7 instead of starting from 5 and adding in 2 more. The illustrations helped them to see how many items they already had and then starting from that number to add in the second number. The light actually dawned!
