Description

This is a 4 week Patterns and Sorting Unit for Kindergarten students, designed to build early algebraic thinking and help students recognize how patterns and categories appear in everyday life.

Students will explore repeating patterns and sorting through hands on activities, including identifying, extending, creating, and describing patterns using colors, shapes, objects, sounds, and movements. They will also practice sorting and classifying objects, noticing similarities and differences, and explaining their thinking using clear math language.

Through engaging, developmentally appropriate practice, Kindergarteners will build confidence in recognizing patterns, organizing objects, and predicting what comes next.

By the end of the unit, students will accurately identify and create repeating patterns, sort objects into categories, and explain their thinking using pictures, numbers, and words.
