LEGEND OF THE BLUEBONNET - Character Traits
Share

Description

Tomie dePaola wrote this sweet folktale about a young Commanche girl who sacrifices her precious doll to save her tribe from the drought. Readers can infer character traits as they read Legend of the Bluebonnet. I've provided three different graphic organizers for students to use in learning about character traits as they read mentor text.

In this product:

- Character Traits and Physical Traits

- Inferring Character Traits

- How or Why Characters Change

While teaching folktales, I use The Legend of Blue Bonnet and The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush as mentor texts. We compare and contrast the legends and teach the elements of a legend. The children love connecting with characters studying their traits and providing text evidence to support their findings. The children also love learning about Native American customs and beliefs close to Thanksgiving. Tomie dePaola is one of their favorite authors to study!
