Description
End your semester with a bang! This capstone project challenges students to design and build a chain-reaction Rube Goldberg machine using LEGO® SPIKE™ Prime — combining mechanical engineering, gear systems, sensors, and block-based coding into one unforgettable final project.
Students work in teams to build a machine with at least 3 automated stages, a programmed robot, a working gear system, and a SPIKE Word Blocks program that uses loops, conditionals, and variables. The result? A showcase-worthy machine that runs start to finish — no touching allowed!
What's Included:
• 11-slide teacher presentation (branded, visual, print-ready)
• Student Planning Worksheet with sketch space, stage breakdown tables, coding plan, gear plan, predicted weak points, and a 6-run testing log
• Teacher Answer Key & Guidance Doc with section-by-section notes, coding plan examples, a 7-category rubric (/28 points), score conversion guide, and showcase day tips
Flexible Timeline:
The built-in timeline is 5 class days, but this project is easy to extend to 7–10 days depending on how quickly your students build and iterate. The structured testing log and engineering mindset slides make extra build days productive — not just free time.
Part of the RoboBytes SPIKE Prime Semester Course Bundle!
This capstone is included in the full semester bundle. Grab the bundle to get every unit, every lesson, and every worksheet at a significant discount.
