Description

This is a collaborative project in which the students work individually to create one portion of a large scale portrait. Students are given an individual reference image (that makes up 1/24th of the portrait) to reproduce on a larger scale using a grid. All individual artworks can then be assembled to reveal the stunning portrait. You can use virtually any medium to execute this lesson.

This project has great connections to artist Chuck Close and also serves as a wonderful color theory culminating activity. When completed, these portraits make show stopping displays in the halls or in your classroom. Included in this packet you will find detailed instructions, photographic samples, 24 individual reference images as well as images of the assembled result. I have also included materials to hang beside the displayed artwork to make it easier to identify which artist completed each section.

These portraits have been a hit year after year. Parents and administrators are blown away by these portraits and student engagement is off the charts with this project!

Check out many other grid projects of many other famous artists, activists, and historical figures in my TPT Store!
