Description
**This product teaches students how to use the RACE strategy (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain). If this is beyond your students' comprehension, start with teaching your students to restate the question first through my Learn to RESTATE the QUESTION with Aesop's Fables product.**
Teach your upper-elementary students how to use the RACE strategy (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) using these adorable Aesop's Fables stories and questions! Knowing how to use this strategy is great for tests and is also a great skill for your students to learn in general. No more one-word answers to those short-answer questions!
There are several pages to help you teach your students how to use the RACE strategy. There are also several pages to help you support your students if they struggle to learn the concept. (You can also check out my Comic Book Dialogue Writing Practice and Restate the Question Practice materials for further support.)
These materials follow the I Do, We Do, You Do method. They include 20 stories for students to read and respond to! Each story prompts students to answer 3 questions in RACE format. An answer key is included for easier grading.
Once you have taught your students how to use the RACE strategy, have your students practice 2-3 times per week so that they remember what they learned and continually get better! It is suggested that you use most of the stories as formative assessments so that students can continue learning. Use the last passage as a summative assessment to make sure your students know their stuff!
Check out the preview to see what these materials look like!
If these materials are too difficult for your students, start restating, answering, and referencing the text with Learn to RESTATE the QUESTION with Aesop's Fables. If your students are being introduced to restating questions for the first time, try my Restate the Question Practice materials.
