Learning Check-In Visual Support System | Self-Regulation & Behavior Support for Autism and Inclusive Classrooms

This Learning Check-In resource is designed to support students in general education and inclusive classrooms, especially students with autism, ADHD, executive functioning needs, or other learning differences. These visual supports help students recognize emotions, communicate needs, and manage frustration during instruction.

The system provides simple, nonverbal tools that allow students to self-advocate while helping teachers quickly provide support without interrupting instruction.

What’s Included

Student Check-In Card
A visual self-regulation tool students can use during whole group or independent work to communicate when they feel confused, frustrated, or overwhelmed. Students choose from three supportive options:

Take a Pause – Put the pencil down and listen without pressure.

Teacher Support – Move closer to the teacher or support staff for help.
Take a Break – Step out briefly to reset and return ready to learn.

Teacher Check-In When Noticing Frustration
Visual check-in teachers can use when they notice signs of frustration, disengagement, or dysregulation, even if a student does not independently request help. Teachers can guide the student to select one of the three supportive choices:

Pause – Take a moment to listen and reduce pressure.
Help – Receive teacher or support staff assistance.
Break – Step away briefly to reset and return ready to learn.
