Students will make a list of all of the synonyms for LIGHT and DARK in chapters 1-2 of Part V, Book Three of Les Miserables. Then, they will choose one set and plot them on the provided connotation graph from negative to positive. This is a great group work activity to get kids digging into Hugo's language!
