Lesson 1 - Your first program

Description

This lesson is part of a series designed to help students learn Java for the AP CSA Exam. I try to break down concepts and vocabulary into easy to understand bites. I’m proud to say my students consistently score higher than the average for both my state as well as average APCSA scores globally.

It includes detailed explanations of the concept as well as 3 quiz questions at the end to check for understanding.

I have used these slides as a supplement to CSAwesome’s lessons, but could easily be used by themselves. However, I recommend using APClassroom’s question bank and videos as additional resources.

I have found that my students enjoy the simplicity of these slides and I hope yours do, too! If you have any questions about the lesson, or advice on what needs to be included, please reach out. Also, please let me know how it goes in your classroom! I would love the feedback.

Please enjoy this first lesson for free. If it's something you think your students would benefit from, check out the other lessons I'm creating!

It seems like, once students reach upper level math and AP courses, it is assumed they learn the way students learned in the 1950s, scouring a textbook, taking notes, and making their own flashcards. Consequently, there are very few resources out there that help them learn challenging concepts in a manageable way. I've been looking for a resource that breaks AP CSA concepts down in a way that is visually appealing and not an overwhelming information dump. This resource fits the bill, breaking the information into bitesize pieces, and is exactly what my high school junior needs to be successful. I hope the author will post more units!
